India’s culture is known for its richness. We have some contradictory practices among different castes and tribes. Live-in concept is gaining approval in India now. But, still it is not accepted by all. A majority of Indians are against Live-in relationships, and kids before marriage is still a taboo here. There is an Indian tribe – Garasia, which supports live-in relationships outside wedlock. They even have kids before marriage.
Garasia is a scheduled tribe living in forest areas of Rajasthan and Gujarat. Livelihood of these tribals depends on farming and working as labour. They marry their live-in partner only when they have sufficient money. Hence, marriage happens in their lives much later.
According to Social Scientists, this arrangement results in low incidents of rapes and dowry violence.

Polygamy is also prevalent in Garasia tribe. A male member of the tribe is permitted to have more than one wife if his first wife is sterile or bears him no sons.
Women retain high status in this tribe, they hold a superior position to men.
The male members of this tribe are trained in all household chores.
